Change in View – 2019 Retrospective

My view out my window changed dramatically in early 2019 when I sold my Renton, WA condo and moved back to Newark, DE. I used to see the Olympic mountains out my living room and dining room (on clear days). Tall pines and waterfalls were featured on my hikes. I saw Mount Rainier many days while walking in Gene Coulon Park at the Southern end of Lake Washington.

I miss the tall pines and lovely snow capped mountain views. I miss my WA friends. I miss sailing on Lake Washington. I do NOT miss driving in traffic on I-405 LOL.

While settling in from the move, the mid-Atlantic familiar hiking trails welcomed me back. Friends welcomed me back, too. East coast road trips connected me with family and fun places to hike and camp. I got to try sailing on the Chesapeake and on a small lake in PA. I finally got to see the wild ponies on Assateague Island, MD!

July was a very special month, since it included a fabulous trip to Scandinavia. Stops included, Reykjavic Iceland, Bergen and Oslo, Norway and Stockholm Sweden. That part of Europe is so lovely – especially in the summer. We took lots of ferry rides, bus rides and got way more steps every day than usual. My feet finally called it quits the last day at Stockholm and we used a lot of public transportation to get around!

The winter solstice nears and brings with it cold temps and short days. It is one of my favorite days of the year. It is a hopeful day – of light and warmth to come. I will get to close out 2019 begin 2020 in the desert sun of AZ. Happy Holidays and Happy Trails! Laura and Ray

High on Color

The mile-high city of Denver has a lovely botanic garden.  All the colors of the rainbow spring up among the mix of paved and non-paved paths.  The bees appreciated the beauties too.  They were not very keen to pose for me though, as they were too busy gathering nectar. Big bonus on the visit – the cafe uses compostable plates, cups and utensils!

Glaciers, whales and cruise ships

Alaska, wild and beautiful

Flowers and waterfalls

Glaciers and whales

Bears frolic and eagles soar

Goats traverse the hills

Float planes and cruise ships bring visitors

We come, we photograph, we leave

We remember

We return

Sierra de la Espuma (Superstition Mountains)

Near Apache Junction, AZ, the superstition mountains rise above the desert.  Lost Dutchman state park has may trails that lead to spectacular viewpoints.   The purported site of the Lost Dutchman gold mine beckons you to explore the legends and lore of the area.  I enjoyed my visit, but one visit is not enough.  The superstitions are calling me back.
